Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before you buy — and after.

Setup & Hardware

Yes. The WhiteCat app is the control panel — the router is the enforcement engine. Blocking happens at the network level inside the router itself, in under 3ms, with no reliance on the cloud. The app without the router has nothing to enforce.

Under 5 minutes. Plug the router into your existing modem with a single cable, open the app, and follow the pairing guide. No rewiring, no technician, no ISP changes needed. The app walks you through each step and discovers your devices automatically.

Yes. WhiteCat connects to any standard modem or gateway via its Gigabit WAN port and works with any internet provider. It replaces your existing Wi-Fi router — your modem stays in place.

No. WhiteCat uses Wi-Fi 6 AX3000 with a dual-core 1.3GHz processor and 512MB RAM — it handles 4K streaming, gaming, video calls, and homework simultaneously without slowdowns. The DNS-level blocking happens in under 3ms and doesn't add noticeable latency to normal browsing.

Controls & Blocking

You can block individual apps and services (TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, gaming platforms, and more), entire content categories (adult content, gambling, scam sites, malware), or cut internet access entirely for a person or device with one tap. You can also set time-based schedules — for example, no gaming after 9pm on school nights.

Yes — this is core to how WhiteCat works. Each person in your household gets their own profile. Emma can have YouTube until 8pm; your teenager loses gaming on school nights; Grandma's tablet quietly blocks scam and fraud sites automatically. Rules follow the person, not the device.

WhiteCat is specifically designed to resist this. It blocks known VPN services and suspicious traffic patterns at the network level. Unlike app-based parental controls that only work on the device, WhiteCat's enforcement sits between every device and the internet — there's no app to uninstall and no settings to disable from a child's phone.

Yes. Because WhiteCat works at the network level, it covers every device connected to your home Wi-Fi — tablets, laptops, Chromebooks, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, smart TVs, and more. No app installation needed on any device.

Yes. One WhiteCat account can manage multiple routers — each at a different location. The same family profiles, rules, and schedules apply everywhere. Whether it's your main home, a weekend house, or a router you set up at a grandparent's place, everything is controlled from the same app.

Current plans cover your home network. When a device leaves your Wi-Fi, WhiteCat's rules no longer apply. Our upcoming Everywhere plan (coming soon, $8.99/mo) extends controls to follow your child's iPhone or Android phone outside the home — including at school, on mobile data, or at a friend's house.

Privacy & Data

No. WhiteCat sees that a device visited "youtube.com" — it never sees what video was watched, what was searched, or what was typed. We collect domain-level counts (blocked or allowed) to show you usage insights. We never read the content of your family's internet traffic, and we never sell data to advertisers.

Your browsing data is never routed through or copied to our servers. The router makes blocking decisions locally — only metadata (device status, domain block counts, firmware version) is synced to our secure US-based servers to power the app and push updates. We never see the content of what your family visits online.
